Nusa Penida Entrance Fee 2026: Complete Cost Breakdown Before You Go

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Starting September 1, 2026, new entrance fees apply at Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong, and Crystal Bay — these were previously free. The retribution fee rule has also changed: it now applies only to foreign visitors; domestic/local travelers are exempt. Details below.

The Nusa Penida Retribution Fee

All visitors are required to pay a tourism retribution fee when entering Nusa Penida.

• Adult: IDR 25,000
• Child: IDR 15,000

Starting September 1, 2026, this fee applies only to foreign (international) visitors. Domestic/local Indonesian travelers are exempt.

This fee is paid once per visit and covers entry to Nusa Penida island. It also applies to Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan if you are visiting those islands.

Since April 21, 2026, this fee must be purchased online before you travel — you can no longer pay at a physical counter on the island. After purchasing, you will receive a QR code that is scanned when you arrive at the harbour. Screenshots or digital copies on your phone are both accepted.

If you book a tour package with a local operator, your driver will typically handle this for you — you just show up and go.

What These Fees Actually Fund

It's fair to wonder where this money goes. From what we've seen on the ground, it's funding real, ongoing infrastructure work across the island: road improvements, street lighting so roads aren't pitch dark at night, better public facilities at the tourist spots themselves, and wages for Balawista (the local beach lifeguard/rescue team) and the cleaning staff who keep the attractions maintained.

This work is still in progress, not finished — but the direction is toward smoother roads, lit roads after dark, and properly equipped facilities at the spots you'll actually visit. In other words, the fees aren't disappearing into nothing; they're paying for the safety and comfort upgrades that make the island easier and safer to enjoy.

Attraction Entrance Fees

Beyond the retribution fee, several specific attractions charge their own entry fee at the gate. Payment at these spots is cash only — bring small rupiah bills.

Starting September 1, 2026, this now includes Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong, and Crystal Bay — all previously free.

These three new fees apply to all visitors — local and foreign alike — unlike the retribution fee above, which is foreigner-only from September 1.

A note on Tembeling: the trail down to Tembeling Beach & Forest is steep and not accessible by car. If you ride your own motorbike down, entry is a straightforward IDR 10,000. If you'd rather not ride it yourself, a local ojek (motorbike taxi) can take you down for IDR 100,000 per person — and that price already includes your entrance ticket, so you're not paying twice.

Optional Add-Ons

Some attractions offer paid experiences that are entirely optional but worth knowing about in advance:

• Diamond Beach swing: IDR 200,000 per person
• Rumah Pohon treehouse photo: IDR 75,000 per person — this is a separate charge from the IDR 25,000 entry fee

Parking Fees

Every attraction on Nusa Penida charges a small parking fee at the entrance:

• Car: IDR 10,000 per spot
• Motorbike: IDR 5,000 per spot

If you book a tour package: parking is handled by your driver — you will not be asked to pay anything at the gate.

If you hire a driver independently at the harbour: clarify before you leave who pays for parking. Some drivers cover it as part of the agreed rate; others will ask you to pay at each stop. Get this clear upfront to avoid confusion on the day — especially across a full day of 5 or 6 stops.

What a Full Day Actually Costs (From September 1, 2026)

To give you a realistic picture, here is what a typical west coast day trip costs in entrance fees and parking (foreign adult, private car):

Tips to Avoid Paying More Than You Should

Buy your retribution fee online before you travel — if it applies to you. Since April 2026, on-arrival cash payment is no longer available, and from September 2026 this fee is foreigner-only. Do this before you book your boat.

Budget for the new entrance fees at Kelingking, Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong, and Crystal Bay from September 1, 2026. These were free before — don't be caught out expecting the old numbers.

Bring cash in small bills. Attraction gates do not accept cards or QRIS. IDR 10,000 and IDR 20,000 notes are ideal — change at gates is not always available.

ATMs are limited. The only reliable ATMs on the island are in Toyapakeh town near the harbour. Withdraw before you leave Bali or immediately on arrival if needed.

Clarify parking with your driver upfront. If you hire independently, a simple question before you leave saves awkward conversations at every stop.

Book a tour package if you want zero hassle. Retribution, parking, and all logistics are handled by your driver. You focus on the views.
